Sparse-Flower Liparis is a shady, tree-dwelling orchid
on mossy branches or rock-dwelling on steep rocky river slopes on mossy
limestone rocks or terrestrial in shallow soils with an elongate
pseudobulb carrying a few leaves that blooms in the spring, summer and
fall on a 30 cm long, few flowered, raceme. Flowers are yellowish green
or orange; flower-stalk and ovary 1.4-2.2 cm. Sepals are linear, 1-1.6
x about 0.2 cm, margin often curled, tip blunt; lateral sepals often
slightly shorter than dorsal sepal. Petals are nearly thread-like,
12-16 x 0.3-0.5 mm, tip blunt. Lip is obovate to semicircular, 1-1.4 x
1-1.1 cm, base narrowed into very short claw and with a frontally
grooved callus, margin somewhat irregularly finely toothed, tip rounded
or blunt. Sparse-Flower Liparisis found in NE India, Laos, Thailand,
Vietnam, China, at altitudes of 1000-2400 m. Flowering:
October-February.
